What is the 10 key method?
The 10 key method is touch typing for the numeric keypad: digits 0 to 9 with period, comma, plus, minus, dollar and Enter, typed without looking down. It is scored in KPH, keystrokes per hour — the metric printed on nearly every data entry, accounting and inventory job posting. The one minute version is the quickest way to benchmark your keypad speed and warm up before a shift.
Our rows mimic a real worksheet: right-aligned amounts with thousands separators and currency symbols, one entry per row, Enter to commit each figure. The numpad heatmap on screen shows the next key in real time, which is exactly how the layout moves from your eyes into your fingers.
Who needs a 10 key score?
Accounting clerks, payroll staff, bookkeepers, warehouse and retail associates, bank tellers, invoicing teams — anyone who lives in spreadsheets. Many postings require 8,000 to 12,000 KPH; experienced operators pass 12,000 with 99% accuracy.
Improve your KPH fast
Home position is 4-5-6 for the middle three fingers of your right hand, with the thumb on Enter and the index on 4-1-7. Learn the wells by feel; glance at the heatmap instead of your hands. Short daily bursts of sixty seconds raise KPH quickly, because the keypad is a small, closed map — once your fingers own it, speed is automatic.
